National Harbor Venue Options | Gaylord, MGM, Westin & Waterfront Event Spaces
National Harbor venue options for conferences, meetings, and galas in Maryland, including Gaylord National, MGM National Harbor, Westin, AC Hotel, and waterfront spaces.
National Harbor Venue Options
National Harbor, in Oxon Hill, Maryland, is the DMV’s largest waterfront meeting campus. It sits across the Potomac from Alexandria and gives planners convention-scale space, resort rooms, and smaller waterfront options in one walkable district.
These are the National Harbor venue options most often used for conferences, meetings, receptions, and galas.
Large Conferences and Conventions
Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center
The anchor venue. Hundreds of thousands of square feet of meeting space, multiple ballrooms, an exhibit hall, and a glass atrium. Best when the program needs breakouts, general sessions, exhibits, and sleeping rooms under one roof.
Signature spaces include the Potomac Ballroom, Maryland Ballroom, Cherry Blossom Ballroom, and waterfront rooms with river views.
MGM National Harbor
About 50,000 square feet of event space, including the MGM Grand Ballroom. Strong for conferences and galas that want a resort-entertainment setting rather than a pure convention-center feel. Groups of roughly 10–500 fit the property well; larger citywide programs still belong at Gaylord.
Mid-Size Meetings and Receptions
Westin Washington National Harbor
Smaller waterfront hotel inventory, including the Potomac Conference Room. Best for meetings and receptions up to about 150, especially when river views matter more than exhibit space.
AC Hotel National Harbor
European-style rooms for small to mid-size groups, plus courtyard and rooftop options. Good for executive meetings and compact receptions.
Distinctive / Outdoor Options
- The Flight Deck — outdoor lounge near The Capital Wheel for receptions and informal gatherings
- Topgolf National Harbor — team and hospitality events
- Waterfront district spaces — plaza, pier, and outdoor rooms for festivals, activations, and cocktail events
- Sunset Room and other dining venues — dinners and smaller hosted events with harbor views
How to Choose
| Program | Strong fit |
|---|---|
| Multi-day convention with exhibits | Gaylord National |
| Conference or gala, 200–1,000 | Gaylord ballrooms or MGM Grand Ballroom |
| Executive meeting or dinner under 150 | Westin, AC Hotel, MGM boardrooms |
| Outdoor reception or activation | Waterfront district, Flight Deck, hotel terraces |
| Split meeting + entertainment evening | Gaylord or Westin by day, MGM at night |
Planning Notes
- Parking, valet, and harbor traffic add time at peak hours
- Atrium and waterfront light differ sharply from interior ballrooms
- Weather plans are required for outdoor harbor spaces
- Some programs use Gaylord for sessions and MGM for an evening event; treat that as two venues
- Water taxi and Wilson Bridge access make Alexandria and DC add-on coverage possible the same day
Photography across National Harbor Venues
Large Gaylord programs often need two photographers. MGM, Westin, and AC Hotel events are more often a single photographer unless arrivals and stage run at once. Share the exact room names; “National Harbor” is a campus, not a room.
