Washington DC Event Venue Feature | Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture

If you are looking for a unique venue for next event, consider a location that’s good for more than just chitchat and cocktails. The Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture offers a setting that not only hosts guests but also intrigues, inspires, and educates.

More than Just a Venue

The museum consists of twelve exhibits that display themes of African American history, culture, and community. Each exhibit gives visitors a peek into the past to transform our understanding of history from and African American perspective. Guests are encouraged to participate in the discussion on how we view American citizenship, liberty, and equality. Each concept looks a little different for each individual depending on our own stories, experiences, and histories.

The exhibits are beautifully curated and wonderfully thought-provoking. With eight levels, there is plenty of space for guests to mingle. Below street level, the museum has three history galleries ranging from the early 1400s to the present. Outside the galleries, you’ll find the theater and Sweet Home Café. As you go up, the first level has plenty of space for meetings or classes as well as a media room and library. Above that are the Community and Culture Galleries. The layout is ideal for a large number of guests to spread out without becoming overcrowded.

If you choose to use the Sweet Home Café, they offer culturally authentic, traditional dishes from four distinct regions. The Agricultural South, The Creole Coast, The North States, and The Western Range. They have expert culinary dishes such as Sweet Corn Pudding, Gulf Shrimp and Stone Ground Grits, Roasted Sweet Potatoes, and Pan Roasted Rainbow Trout. Yum!
