Hosting an event at a Smithsonian museum is not the same as booking a hotel ballroom. The architecture and collections are part of the night. So are security rules, flash limits, load-in windows, and restrictions on how images may be used.

These rooms have mixed light, tight circulation, and collections that cannot be treated as décor. A Smithsonian event photographer should already know how to:

The assignment is the named hall on the permit, not “the Smithsonian” as a single room.
Our Photojournalistic Approach
We observe first and direct only when a planned group photograph is required.
Coverage typically includes:

What to Expect
Planning
Send the run-of-show, room list, and museum vendor guidelines. We review flash rules, crew size, insurance notes, and any no-photograph requests before event day.
On site
A small reception may need one photographer. A courtyard dinner plus a second hall usually needs two. We scale to the floor plan.
Delivery
Highlight frames can be turned around the same night or next day for communications teams. The full edited gallery follows. Usage should match the Smithsonian agreement: personal, internal, archival, and other permitted uses. Campaign or advertising use of iconic Smithsonian interiors is a separate permission.

Event videography can be coordinated under the same brief when the museum allows it.
